In this Gdańsk apartment concrete does not chill — on the contrary, it breathes with warmth and light, becoming a backdrop for life lived at a slow pace. From the threshold, the eye is drawn to the soft grey of rubbed plaster surfaces, their irregular texture catching the light. This is a space built on contrasts, yet free of ostentation. Rawness meets softness here, and an industrial character mingles with the atmosphere of a refuge. The design rests on two distinct colour worlds engaged in a subtle dialogue. The living area is steeped in shades of ivory, sandy plaster and linen beige, offset by the golden russet of a generous sofa upholstered in a thick, textured fabric. It is here that daylight works hardest. It spills across the concrete floor, accentuates the graininess of the walls and draws out the warmth of the wood. By evening the character of the interior changes entirely. Orange side lighting settles softly on the surfaces, blurring boundaries and turning the paper lampshade into a glowing point reminiscent of a setting sun. The kitchen and library form a bolder frame. Cooler tones of concrete are set here against the deep green of terracotta tiles and the mirrored fronts of the upper cabinets, which reflect the light and multiply the space. The centrepiece remains the island — a massive, multifunctional block around which daily life gathers: cooking, conversation, work and spontaneous get-togethers. Shelving filled with books and collected objects lends the interior a personal character. The bedroom is conceived as a place for rest, work and creativity. The bed, set on a bespoke storage chest, offers generous storage space, while the presence of musical instruments speaks to the owner's interests. Throughout the apartment one senses inspirations from 1970s aesthetics and a Japanese-Scandinavian approach to material: honest, sensual, focused on light and texture. This is warm brutalism in an intimate register: an urban retreat that impresses not with scale but with an atmosphere that stays with its inhabitant long after dark.
